SEWAGE TREATMENT – WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS
Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant
The Problem
This large city has two wastewater treatment plants. The smaller of the two in the north of the City is not ideally placed and has aging infrastructure. This plant also suffered a major flood in 2008. At the moment, activated sludge is transported to the larger wastewater treatment plant in the south of the city.
The southern wastewater treatment plant is to be enlarged, doubling its capacity to 40 million litres per day (lpd), but in the meantime is struggling to acheive acceptable outgoing COD levels, largely as a result of high levels of surfactants in the wastewater recieved from a new shampoo factory.
The Solution
We recommended adding EnBac® B500 to the wastewater at the southern wastewater treatment plant.
The Results
COD levels have dropped to acceptable levels.
Construction work has begun at the southern wastewater treatment plant. Once complete, the northern wastewater treatment plant will close and the city will review use of EnBac® B500.
